SOUNDS!!!!! Yup, that's right, I want you to be looking for sounds today. But first, I want to remind you that all pictures that you are putting in your cartoon have to be G-rated..... ALONG WITH THE LANGUAGE USED AND THE TOPICS DISCUSSED. You are creating a CARTOON!!!!

Now, if I had been able to give you an example of a cartoon from past classes, or if you remember from the assemblies, you would know they were full of sound effects..... So, what you have to do today:

1. Theme song - you will all be able to find a theme song on www.televisiontunes.com . Search your cartoon name. When you choose and click on one of the options in the list the website will automatically start playing the song. There is a button with an arrow pointing down with a line on the bottom. Click that and you will be asked if you want to save. You do, and you want to save it in your CARTOON folder.

2. Sound Effects - you will be able to find ANY sound effect you need for your cartoon on www.findsounds.com. Search your sound. You will be given a number of matches to your search. Listen to them by clicking on the link, or the little play button. Download them by RIGHT CLICKING on the LINK, and clicking SAVE LINK AS.... You will want to make sure it is saving as a WAV. You will save this in your CARTOON folder!!!!

3. You will also have to make sure that you are working on the Short Story Criterion. That will have to be done in order for me to mark your assignment. I will have your cartoon mark sheet to you as soon as I get back on Monday... it was one of the items deleted from the storage device.

Final Assignment in this unit. We have talked about internet security, antivirus, search engines, and the beginning of the internet. But we haven't talked about the DANGERS. And there are MANY!!! Your assignment is to create a RAFTS based on the following criteria. You are the Internet cops, and yes, there are such people, and you are writing a 2 page report on the dangers on the internet. You are WARNING the youth of our world.

You have two classes to work on this. I have listed a number of topics below that you can research. You can write one paragraph per topic. Please be careful when researching these topics.... you dont want to pull up actual CONTENT. You want information on the topic. For example: do not search 'child pornography'. Instead look up the 'dangers of child pornography'.

You can report on other topics that are not listed below. As long as you can support them as a danger.

"Assignment #3 20.3 Understand the operation of search engines and perform efficient searches to access suitable information. ~ One of the paradoxes of the Internet is that there is a vast body of information available, but it is often difficult to find what is wanted. Students should research the advanced search techniques on a number of different search engines, and in particular should be familiar with Boolean searches. Effective search techniques allow more efficient access to information.

Students could compare the results of a number of different search engines doing the same searches. They should realize that some search engines are more effective at some searches than others, but none are better at everything, therefore a variety of search engines should be utilized. It would be helpful if students understood the various ways that search engines make their decisions, and the way sites are placed in a search engine's database.

Internet Exploration, Theory and Use

Assignment #1 - Objective: Explain the development of the Internet, the changes that have happened since the inception and the control (or lack of control) of it: be familiar with the origins of the Internet and the purpose for which it first was introduced. A key point in the development of widespread use was the introduction of the world wide web, which allowed a very user-friendly interface. There are many websites that can be used as resources.
You have to:
~ Explain the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY & HOW with regards to the creation of the internet (general history).
~ At least 1 to 2 good paragraphs for each of the six questions.
~ Be aware of the site that you are retrieving information from... not all site's information can be trusted as truth...

Hey IPR

Sorry I am not in today, feeling a little under the weather.

Anyway, you are to continue on with your database exercises. The next 5 (maybe 6) exercises are simple and very well explained in the database book. Do you remember those database planning sheets we filled out in the beginning of this unit? Well, you are to find those (in the white bucket or on the table) and finish the remaining columns. You are all very smart children and you have entered enough database fields into Access that you will understand how to complete these exercises.

Just please do exactly what is asked of you from the booklet and we won't have any issues. Do it wrong, and I will delete EVERYTHING you have done so far and make you redo it. THAT IS HOW EASY THIS ASSIGNMENT SHOULD BE.

You have the hour to complete the exercises (all of the sheets should be completed). I will see you tomorrow. :)

You must also add actual dialect to the commercial... That's right! Your own voice! You will have about 7 hours of class time (starting today) to finish this, so get to work!

The object that you are selling/advertising can be one that you made up or one that already exists.

TRY THIS IPR 10!

Goal: To Create a computerized version of a worksheet showing projected expenses for a University students' fall term. The design of the worksheet is based on this hand-drawn planning version.

1) The first step is to launch MS Excel or Open Office Calc and start a new worksheet.

2) Next, type descriptive labels for the worksheet and TITLE, and label the rows and columns. You may have to adjust the column widths in order to accommodate some of the longer and shorter headings.

3) You should now also try to change the format of the cells to allow them to show the dollar sign figures (currency). Try using the shortcut method (right click) when you have the desired cells selected.

4) Now the data:

a) Tuition and fees were a one-time fee which you paid in September ($1450)

b) Books were also a one-time fee, also paid in September. ($450)

c) Rent is a constant $250 a month, however you had to pay a $125 dollar damage deposit in your first month.

d) Utilities are getting more expensive as the cold sets in. (Sept. $50, Oct. $60, Nov. $75, Dec. $95)

e) Food is a constant $160 a month.

f) Transportation is also a constant $120 a month.

g) Odds and ends have been $100 a month for the first three, however this increases in December by $300 for your Christmas shopping.

5) Once you have the data filled in, you need to calculate the totals for each month, as well as the totals for each row.

6) Once the formulas are entered, and totals are complete, you should format the worksheet to make it much more attractive. Change to suit your own tastes, however, keeping in mind that the worksheet will be read by others and should be readable.

7) You may send the worksheet to your instructor at this point, OR you may want to try the additional activity below.
